Nicknamed Cape Town’s “St. Tropez”, there’s no denying that Clifton is the holiday destination in The Mother City. The sky-high property prices are somewhat justified by the exceptional sweeping views of the sparkling Atlantic Ocean and the glistening sugar-white shores. Clifton’s four beaches are separated by falls of huge granite boulders, protecting them from the notorious south-easterly wind, and making them an exclusive paradise for sunbathers.
In summer, Clifton is beyond ideal for endless hours of lazy sunbathing among the most beautiful sun-kissed tourists and locals in the world. It is the place to be seen, stretched out below the clear blue sky. And there is always plenty of activity on the beaches, and on the sea too where yachts calmly glide and surfers carve the crisp Atlantic waves. Clifton is nestled among some of Cape Town’s most elite restaurants, from The Bungalow to The Clubhouse Tapas Bar at The Bay Hotel. It’s also a stone’s throw away from other eat-out gems, including La Mouette, which serves impeccable high-end European cuisine, and NV-80 steakhouse – both in Upper Sea Point.
Besides its beaches and its ideal setting Clifton is know as the most exclusive residential area in South Africa, boasting some of the most beautiful and extravagant real estate. Architecture styles vary between crisp, elegant white mansions, to sleek, ultra-modern glassy lofts, to proud, illustrious castle-style manors. And of course, there are plenty of exquisite beach houses too. Our villa offerings promise to be the cherry-on-top of your Clifton visit. Below are a few of my personal favourites. Or you can browse through many more on our Clifton Villas page.
This absolute treasure is complete with all the bells and whistles and beyond. Designed by Stefan Antoni, it’s been dubbed as a new benchmark in contemporary seaside living. The splendid location is within the midst of breathtakingly uninterrupted ocean views. The architecture and design boast a perfect harmony between simplicity and luxury, complete with avant-garde finishes, and topped off with maximum privacy. My favourite!
This luxurious villa is nestled on the sea facing mountain side of Clifton. Seville House literally offers a breath-taking 360-degree sea views from all bedrooms, living areas, outside dining and relaxing areas; and it oozes a relaxed sophisticated style. With 2 swimming pools, wide glass doors opening up from the living room, kitchen and dining areas, it achieves a splendid flow from inside to out. Divine!
Oh my! Another favourite. When it comes to interior design Villa Mosaic is undoubtedly one of Cape Town’s finest luxury properties. It exudes class and refinement, and has the perfect set up for relaxation and enjoyment. The open plan living area is ideal for entertaining, complete with a dining area that fits twelve. Bedrooms are indulgently and comfortably furnished, and the garden and terrace area is perfect for lazy afternoon lounging.
A designer’s paradise. This beautiful property with its white washed walls reminds me of cool, luxury holidays in Ibiza. Set amidst a natural arrangement of granite boulders, hugging the contour of the cliff 75 Victoria is a private and secluded home which is spaciously arranged over four levels, all with breathtakingly ocean views. The home sleeps 10 people in five en-suite bedrooms.
Villa Leora is great fun. I would love to spend my family holiday here. It is fully equipped with a gym, steam room and heated pool, a fully functional kitchen and entertaining area with fantastic views. This modern yet classic villa has five bedrooms en-suite. The master bedroom is on the top level overlooking the beach and mountains with a separate balcony.
As the name suggest this excellent property is right on the beach. Beach Villa is a new property on Clifton 4th beach which is ideal for a relaxing seaside holiday. The owners have spared no expense to create a luxurious home, blending stylish design with easy to use appliances and technology. The villa is comfortable and relaxing.
And there you have it! All the more reason to spend your summer in Clifton. Until next time: Salut!
